The short version of why it exists: Boston's rental market runs on agents. Most listings never appear on a national portal, the whole city turns over on September 1, and the fee rules changed in 2025. A national site treats Boston like any other market. Spot Easy does not.
How does Spot Easy verify agents?
Every agent on the platform is confirmed to hold an active Massachusetts real estate licence and to be working under a valid brokerage. Listings reach the site one of two ways: posted by an agent whose credentials we have approved, or imported directly from the MLS.
That is the whole mechanism, and it is worth being plain about what it does and does not cover. It means the person behind a listing is a licensed professional you can look up in the state licensee database. It does not mean any individual unit has been inspected. Anyone can check an agent's licence themselves through the Massachusetts Division of Professional Licensure.
What does it cost a renter?
Searching is free. There is no fee to browse, save listings, or contact an agent through the site.
The separate question is the broker fee, and Massachusetts law changed here on August 1, 2025: whoever hires the broker pays the broker. For most renters that means no fee. What does renting in Boston actually cost right now?
Spot Easy publishes its own rent data from active verified listings and updates it monthly. As of July 2026, the Greater Boston medians are:
